Operation Banner Commemorative Miniature Medal

Operation Banner Commemorative Miniature Medal

2017 marked the 10th anniversary of the end of Operation Banner in Northern Ireland and we have been asked to produce a commemorative medal to mark service in the region during Operation Banner.

This simple but poignant design features the map of the region and the dates of Operation Banner on the obverse with a distinctive laurel leaf on the reverse. The highly polished reverse has space for optional medal engraving.

Tour Numerals:

Additional tours in Northern Ireland can be denoted by adding a numeral to the ribbon.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Commemorative Northern Ireland Service Medal is available to British Forces for a minimum of 1 days service between 14th August 1969 and 31st July 2007.

The new anniversary medal is die-struck in the UK using the same methods used to strike medals including the GSM & Operational Service Medals issued by the MoD. Each medal will be supplied mounted ready to wear. This is a Commemorative Anniversary Medal to be worn separately and distinctively from official awards but can be worn alongside other Commemorative Medals.

This medal was proposed by a group of veterans and subsequently created to commemorative the end of operations in Northern Ireland. The official award - the only award to be issued for the 38 year operation - is a 'general service' medal with an added clasp. The Commemorative Northern Ireland Service Anniversary Medal has been struck to solely mark this historic period in British Military history.
